Published: Wednesday, February 09, 2011

By PATRICK H. DONGES, The Saratogian

SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Spa City’s annual July 4 All-American Celebration, which has formally been organized by various city departments, will now be planned by a citizen-organized not-for-profit organization.

Saratoga’s All-American Celebration Inc. took the reigns from city Finance Commissioner Ken Ivins Jr. at an event held on the second floor of the Saratoga Springs History Museum in the Canfield Casino Wednesday afternoon.

The group is a registered 5013c tax exempt non-profit organization and is registered with the New York State Attorney General’s Office Charities Bureau.

“There whole purpose is to continue this event,” Ivins said of the committee, adding that it was always his intention to hand off organization of the event to a citizen-run group.

The new organization will be administrated by a seven-member board of directors comprised of city leaders and others who have helped organize the event in the past.

Deputy Finance Commissioner Kate Jarosh, who has led the event organization efforts since Ivins took office, is president of the board, backed by Saratoga Springs Supervisor Matthew Veitch as treasurer, city resident Andrew Jarosh as secretary, Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce President Todd Shimkus, Saratoga Springs Holiday Inn owner Cindy Hollowood, Colleen Carlson of Saratoga Casino and Raceway, and Saratoga Salsa and Spice Co. owner John Knotek.

Sonny and Julie Bonacio of Bonacio Construction, who have supported the event financially in the past, will be chairs of the event’s 2011 Honorary Committee.
